Nodium and Matomo
Matomo is a large analytics suite you can run on your own server or rent as a cloud service. Nodium is one page, with no cookies, a read of your own forms, and a weekly check of your pages. Here's where they differ.
Facts checked on October 23, 2026, each against its source. Every number links to where it came from.
Side by side
| What | Nodium | Matomo | Better at this |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cookies | No cookies and nothing stored on the device. A visitor is a daily key made from the IP address, the browser and your site, and the IP address is never stored.1 | Sets first-party cookies by default, including a visitor ID kept for 13 months.2 One line of code turns them off, which Matomo says can make its reports less accurate.3 | Nodium |
| IP addresses | The IP address is never stored.1 | Stored with part of each address masked: 2 bytes by default, and more if you choose.4 | Nodium |
| Running it | Nothing to host or update. One line of code in the head of every page of your site.5 | Matomo Cloud runs it for you. On your own server, Matomo 6 needs PHP 8.1 and MySQL 8.0 or newer, and at least 2 CPUs and 2 GB of memory for up to 100,000 pageviews a month6, and Matomo recommends a scheduled job that builds the reports every hour7. | About even |
| Form analysis | Reads each form on your own site field by field, never what anyone types: who saw it, who started it, who sent it (where your site shows a send), the field where people stop and the fields the form marked wrong. Nothing to set up.8 | Form Analytics shows how many people start, submit and convert on your own forms, the last field they used before leaving, and the fields they hesitate on or correct, and it can detect many standard forms itself. On your own server it's a premium feature, sold on its own or in a bundle; Matomo Cloud includes it.9 | About even |
| Insights in plain English | “What we noticed”: insights from written rules, each with how it was counted. No AI.10 | A view of each report that lists its biggest rises and falls against a period you pick.11 | Nodium |
| Search, speed and accessibility checks | Weekly search, speed and accessibility checks, with a fix list.12 | SEO Web Vitals tracks page speed, in the version on your own server only.13 We didn't find accessibility checks on Matomo's pages. | Nodium |
| Email reports | A Monday email with the week's figures, notes and fixes.14 | Daily, weekly or monthly, as HTML, PDF or CSV, by email, phone or Slack.15 | About even |
When to pick Nodium
Pick Nodium if you want the answers without building the reports. Nodium sets no cookies and has nothing to host or update. One page shows who came and how your forms do. The insights say what changed and how it was counted, and the weekly check lists what to fix.
